Which Is The
Best Antioxidant? Teamwork Is The Answer!
Which is the best antioxidant?
I'm sure this has caused a lot of debate, along with
which is the most important
antioxidant and which is the
most powerful antioxidant too.
The answer is none really!
I'll try and explain (simply)...it is now clear
that antioxidants I'll try and
explain (simply)...it is now clear that antioxidants
work better
together, (synergistically) or as a team.
Imagine a soccer team made up of only eleven full-backs, no
midfield players, no strikers or a goalkeeper. I'm guessing it
wouldn't win many games.
So compare that to antioxidants. They should
not be thought of as individual
compounds. No, they should be thought of
as complimentary players in a team. Don't you think the soccer
team would be much more effective if it had the right mix of
players?
You see, certain types of antioxidants protect against
different types of free
radicals, in different parts of cells and in different
parts of the body.
To make another analogy, it is like arguing which link in a
chain is the best or most important one? Well, we all know the
answer..the chain is as strong as it's weakest link. So the
same can be said about antioxidants.
Antioxidant Synergism
Richard A Passwater (PhD), coined this phrase back in the
mid-1960's and mentioned it in his book 'All about
Antioxidants'. It really sums up the question of which is the
best antioxidant, he says "Essentially, antioxidant synergism
is when the effects of combining antioxidants are greater than
you would expect from adding up the effects of all the
antioxidants individually"
There are some really effective antioxidant drinks on the
market that subscribe to this ethos and combine a mixture of
various powerful antioxidants for maximum free-radical fighting
effect.

parts!
